Art Description:
I didn't set out to paint sunflowers in this series I was more interested in achieving floating glowing forms. Coffee grounds, sand, powdered pigment are used to build up a rough texture in the lower areas while dirty whites and unbleached whites blend into canvas and pure white this suggests a cloudy emptying heaven whereas the the textured below suggests the weight of real earth. With these dichotomies within the same frame a visual tension and a movement is generated which keeps the image from settling rather it stays active. I intentionally scaled the pieces in this series to be vertical and human size. At 4 feet by 6 feet they are formidable and epic feeling.
Medium Used: Oil and Coffee Grounds on Canvas
