    Art Description:

Regarding the question of what art means it is essential to acknowledge we are a part of nature and not apart from it. Paradoxically, with this in mind, we are nature finding an expression of ourselves in manifesting objects that are artificial (though composed of earth sourced materials) and distinctly apart from us. The Sanskrit term Ullasa has varying definitions. My introduction to Ullasa was distilling nature's sublime beauty to have as a resource when needed. For instance, I am awestruck and humbled by a forest of giant redwood trees so I hold this wondrous response in reserve as an elixir to review/release in a moment when experience seems stunted, petty or bleak. My painting is an homage and prayer to this. It is a torch that cannot be extinguished; a phoenix perpetually reborn from ashes.

Medium Used: Oil, Sand, and Powdered Pigment on Canvas

A body of work should not be a cadaver evidencing life that was but rather the flash-point for life which ignites anew on each renewed encounter.
