Art Description:
This piece combines tendencies of drawing, painting and collaging into a hybrid of series and styles. The maroon leaves in the foreground are painted in a trompe l'oeil style to set them apart and confound the eye into assuming they are pasted on. There is a sustained tension between disparate elements as well as between painted whites and the raw white gessoed canvas. The classic push/pull of a surface both confirmed as a flat plane while simultaneously a deep illusory space.
