Art Description:
Two 38x58" canvases form a diptych.
Exclusively available through Artonique this large scale diptych is composed of 2 abutting 38x58" canvases.
The phrase "scream until you’re blue in the face" came to mind as I worked on this. There are contrasting elements of humor and horror in the singers which align with present state of the world. I am turning up the volume of the melodrama and visual tension by lending them a monumentality in comparison to the much smaller figures at the base of this classic pyramid composition. The skewed alignment of the 2 abutting canvases slightly interrupting the flow also creates a schism in how the image is perceived. An alternative photograph shows the canvases are primed in Holbein's intense orange gesso sparks of which are visible throughout as underpainting and edge color. The vividly colored edge adds a halation and additional jolting element and arrest.
Note: when shipped the canvases will be securely stacked without contacting one another in a crate so while the assembled diptych is 76 inches long the crate itself will be half the size.
Medium Used: Oil and orange gesso on canvas
