Art Description:
This canvas is unusual in that the profile is quite thick, appr. 4 inches off the wall. Rather than having a square face side it has a sharp edge which angles toward the center in similar angles in the Stardust sign. The effect is canvas seems to float off the wall. See American Dream no.4 Convenient Parking for a detailed description of the American Dream sequence. I've painted the sky a lurid flesh color to add to the undertone of seedy drama here. I paint the signage as an homage to the commercial artforms of neon bending and sign-making as well as to bring in the punch of Pop Art. The cinematic saying, "What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas" is actually not true. What happens in Vegas is imprinted on the American psyche like a clown swallowing a lightbulb.
