Art Description:
Long Term Vigilance is a large scale abstract frieze in a rainbow of thickly and quickly applied oil paint. My studio practice includes numerous approaches and formal strategies to generating imagery. In this case I've used my hands to smear and my fingers and brushes to write and knives to blade on and scrape off pain. This is several hours of feverish painterly attack. The resulting image is a precarious balance of harmony and dissonance teetering in a riot of gestures becoming letter forms like murmurs from a crowd. The vigilance is a promise to the muse to continually trust the unknown and, at times, abandon all reason for the sake of pure emotional release.
